easy come, easy go
i didn't get the assistant to the events coordinator job. i did however get a job at the LA trade technical college. but since i'm only taking 6 units (2 classes), the supervisor won't let me work there.
so i've been running around the past two days trying to rectify this problem. today, i talked to the director of the masters program to see if i can do a petition to add a class. she said it's fine with her, but the instructor needs to okay it. so i talked to this recent post-doc and he said that he wasn't sure if it's a good idea to add me so late since i'll be way behind on the theories on student development. yay!
my friend david suggested that i go take a 2 unit class on residental education. i guess i'll go check that out tomorrow. it's free, so that's one good thing about it. and it's also pass/no pass and doesn't show up on your official transcript. i'm not sure if i want to do that though.
here's the problem. i don't like the supervisor. i really don't. she's way too negative. she's also asian. since college, all my supervisors have been freaking asian women. here they are in chronological order:
1. karen (srlf) - really nice women. easy going and actually pretty caring. and not at all negative.
2. carolyn (irc) - she was also pretty nice. a bit disorganized. but not negative either.
3. the dev.. i mean sun (npistat) - evil bitch. i hate her with a passion. so fucking negative. even if i do a good job on an assignment, she would never say anything nice about it.
so now this new asian woman, cecilia, has the potential to be another sun. so my hesitation to actually try to get this job back is really hinging on if i want to work for her.
yes, i realize there are a number of good reasons why i should totally forget about how much of a bitch she could be and get this job. it's a step into student affairs, which is good. it's a job, so there's somewhat of an income. and it's experience that i need badly.
but then, as my management professor tells us in class, it's really important that you fit into the organization's culture and politics. it's really difficult to work in a place that you don't like. where the culture doesn't fit what your personality is.
so the question is do i want to suffer for a year or two in hell 2, or do i want to try elsewhere? tough question.
i was thinking maybe of going to pcc tomorrow and "cold visit" different areas of student affairs. *sigh*
i finally got a copy of the jason mraz cd from tiffany. it's pretty good. now if i could find someone who has the delays...
this semester, i'm trying to become a little more social. having only two classes is leaving me with a lot of extra time. i can certainly use it to look for a job.
oh, apparently, i'm going to be an uncle soon. it's a wonderful surprise. i can't wait.
