can you love animals that much?

i think i've just witnessed one of the most disgusting display of human-animal interaction in my life.

i'm sitting outside of starbucks and this couple with a dog is sitting in front of me. a guy walks up to the dog and after greeting the dog, preceded to give the dog a few licks of his ice-cream. after the dog had a few licks, the guy then took a couple of licks of the ice-cream himself.

okay, is that really necessary? i mean seriously, isn't that just a bit disgusting? you don't know where the dog's tongue has been and you don't know these people. think about all the nasty germs and stuff that's been transmitted all around.

i don't care how clean people think their pets are, pets are pretty nasty. i can stand dogs licking my hands and feet, but when it starts licking my face, that's it. i'm outta there. dogs have been known to eat feces and drink out of the toilet. *yikes*

so anyway, that was pretty disturbing and hardly conducive to my studying.

home run!

it's been a while since we've come back from our trip in europe. i have to say that even though we were always busy going from one place to another, it was still a great trip. i think the best part of the trip (other than spending so much quality time with deidra) is seeing the eiffel tower. it took my breath away.

a new semester started last week and i have to say that it's going to be a rough semester. masters seminar b, ethnography (killer), and counseling. there's not much i can do about these classes. a lot of reading and projects. it's going to be a lot of work.

another problem with this semester is that i'm spending too much time playing poker and gin rummy with the starbucks crew. i definitely need to cut down on that. but it's just so much fun. *sigh*

so we had a softball game today. no surprise, we lost. i was pitching so poorly in the first 3 innings. i walked a lot of people. finally, the ref had to show me how to pitch properly. he was pretty nice about it though and after that, i pitched fairly well.

i did hit a home run today, which was great and a little unexpected. i also had a single. while running to second, i tried to beat out the throw and did a half slide, face plant sort of thing, which got a good chuckle from everyone. oh well, at least i did score after that.

deidra's back in florida visiting her family. school doesn't start until later this month for her so she had some free time, especially with the holiday weekend. i miss having her around, which isn't too unusual. so i tried to keep busy when i'm at home alone and watched the first season of entourage, which is decent.

i'm currently trying to read for ethnography, and it's really slow. this book is so technical and i have no idea what some of the terms the author use mean. i mean seriously, what the fuck is "static functionalist theory" anyway? it's going to be a rough semester.
