here's a story, of a bloke name franny
who was going on a blind date of his own
he was scared and very nervous
he felt all alone

until wednesday when this lady met with franny
and they knew that dinner was much more than a lunch
but the fear of a blind date left so quickly
when he gave her such a lovely hello "munch."

okay, granted the last line didn't happen. which is good cuz i didn't want it to happen. i'm kinda traditional in that sense; no good will ever come with those who puts out on the first date. so i went on my blind date last night, and it wasn't as bad as i thought i was going to be. in fact i had a pretty good time. i will only give a brief synopsis of what happened cuz a gentleman never kiss and tell (except on the phone or in person).

i finished watching bend it like beckham at five past four in the afternoon. "plenty of time," i thought to myself. then i preceeded to go to macy's to get a new wallet. i've always been kinda self-conscious of my old wallet because of the stickers i stuck on it a few years back. so i upgraded my wallet, got some new socks, got a soy latte (which i'm kinda getting sick of) and headed home. on the way home, i dropped by rite-aid over in south pasadena to grabbed a can of hair spray.

by now it was 20 past five, and i figured, still enough time to get out to long beach before 7:30. so i dilly-dallied for another half-hour, showered, and basically had a 10-minute argument with myself about whether to wear jeans or khakis. an exercise that required me to put on two pairs of jeans and the khakis twice. i ended up choosing the khakis and a blue button up shirt. a little cologne and i was well on my way down fremont ave. a little past 6pm.

thankfully, traffic on the I710 wasn't horrendous. however, i did get a little lost because i didn't know the I710 split; one going towards downtown, long beach and the other to the piers and queen mary (the big boat). so i ended up calling my friend, carlin, for driving directions to deidra's apartment. it's great having friends who are computer savvy and are always in quick access of one.

naturally, (right, shawn?) i got there 45 minutes early, but it was nearly impossible to find parking on her street. after driving around for 10 minutes or so, i was lucky enough to find a parking spot around the corner from her apartment. i spent the next 20-25 minutes at a swanky bar called, "the red room" that i parked in front of. surprisingly, i wasn't too nervous, but felt the need to have a beer at the bar (which i did) and was very tempted to take on a tequila shot as well. but i thought better of it.

at half past seven, i was in front of her apartment, trying desperately to ring the doorbell. after two unsucessful tries, i ended up having to knock on her iron screen, which did the trick. i awkwardly introduced myself, "hi, i'm f-r-a-n-c-i-s," and the rest of the night was one big, happy, dreamy blur.
